Deputy Inspector
General Grace Kaindi and Rift Valley Coordinator Osman Warfa were nearly caught
up in an ambush by bandits as they toured Nadome area on Thursday.Kaindi and Warfa had
toured the area accompanied by senior offices.The Rift Valley
Coordinator confirmed that the senior officers were ambushed just a few minutes
after he and Kaindi left the area in a chopper.
Warfa said a shootout
ensued between the senior offices and the bandits stating that none of the
policeman were injured in the incident.Fifty four people were
killed in Nadome in fighting that began on Monday night.Thirty six Turkanas and
eighteen Pokots were killed in the fighting.
The Kenya Red Cross
Society and journalists visited the area on Tuesday and saw at least eight
injured with bullet wounds.One of the injured,
Riomakabel Shaban, 18, said Turkana bandits raided the village at 5am on
Monday, killing an entire family of 10, among them four children aged between
two and seven and their mother.
Interior Cabinet
Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has vowed to arrest any politician found to have
incited the communities to engage in conflict. Any politician found to
have incited Turkana and Pokot communities to engage in conflict will be
arrested, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has said.
